Since 1993, Dr. Lawrence Mykytiuk has mainly researched the historicity of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, focusing on methodology and practice in identifying biblical people mentioned in inscriptions of their times. His published dissertation is Identifying Biblical Persons in Northwest Semitic Inscriptions of 1200–539 B.C.E. (Society of Biblical Literature, 2004), with updates in journal articles and book chapters. Reading twelve languages, he earned a PhD in Hebrew and Semitic Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he studied archaeology under Profs. Keith Schoville and Jeffrey Blakely and earned an MA in Library and Information Studies. His alma mater is Trinity College (part of Trinity International University), Deerfield, Illinois. For over 26 years, Larry helped countless undergraduate and graduate students do their research by guiding them to the best sources on the topics they chose. He was selected to receive awards for research and for teaching by his colleagues in the Libraries Faculty, and he was honored by a unanimous vote of the faculty members of Purdue's Department of History to receive a courtesy appointment as Associate Professor of History from 2014 until his retirement in 2020. Since 2000, Larry has presented his research at several national and regional scholarly conferences of the Society of Biblical Literature, as well as Christian student groups on university campuses. In 2019, by invitation he was Scholar in Residence at Temple Sholom, Chicago. Much earlier, for eight years he and his wife served churches around Manila, Philippines, where he also taught outreach courses for Asian Theological Seminary. By teaching, leading small groups, and occasionally preaching, Larry has served and continues to serve American churches in the Midwest.
