Về tác giả — Assia Lau'ren

Assia Lau’ren is a U.S. Army veteran turned independent artist, blending storytelling, photography, and performance to explore themes of identity, healing, and emotional truth. A Howard University graduate and former Army Captain, she channels her lived experience into powerful creative work across multiple mediums. She is the author of two compelling collections of poetry that encourage reflection, self-reclamation, and emotional honesty. She is also the photographer and author of three immersive photography books that capture both the quiet beauty and bold complexity of overlooked spaces and stories. As an actor, Assia made her theatrical debut in MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE playing opposite Morgan Freeman and Sonequa Martin-Green. When she's not writing or behind the lens, Assia acts on screen and hosts creative events that amplify Black voices and lived experience. From the AuthorI lived Downtown Los Angeles in 2020 and my camera and my dog saved me from the confinement of my studio apartment. During the early days of the COVID-19 Quarantine-Lockdown and the BLM Movement, life felt heavy and scary, so I had to find peace somewhere other than my bottles of wine. The streets is where I roamed to escape my thoughts. To marvel and to cry at what mankind is capable of.
About the AuthorAssia Lau'ren was born in 1992, in Baltimore, Maryland. She grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and after highschool she attended and graduated from Howard University in 2014. From Howard, Assia commissioned into the US Army as an Officer. She served for six years on active duty; first in 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), then in 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne). She left the Army in 2020 as a Captain to pursue her career as an actor and writer.
